CIARA SOUAD CÉZANNE BALDWIN

Ciara discovered her passion for dance and performance in at a very early age and, as a result, received extramural dance tuition throughout her schooldays.

 

She successfully completed her Diploma in Modern Jazz Dance Teaching in 2012 with the Association of International Dance Teachers, Cape Town. Ciara went on to do a 3-year performing arts course at the Cape Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA), Cape Town, graduating with a Diploma with Distinction in Performing Arts, majoring in Dance, in 2015.

 

Ciara has appeared in numerous dance and drama shows on both stage and TV, including several productions for choreographers such as; José Agudo (Spain/UK), Bradley Shelver (SA/USA), Christopher Huggins (USA), Grant Van Ster (SA), Somizi Mhlongo (SA), Sarah Cookney (SA) and more. Working for these choreographers has taken her to many stages and festivals from Cape Town, the Klein Karoo and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival to Canada, London, Scotland, Amsterdam, Johannesburg, Birmingham, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Nigeria.

Televised performances include performing as a dancer at the African Cup of Nations Opening Ceremony at Cape Town Stadium in 2013; a tap dance sequence on TV for the Glo-Caf African Football Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2014, Live Dance excerpts on the SABC morning show Expresso.

CAN Creative has performed their work Rooted in Cape Town (Baxter Dance Festival 2017) as well as (2018 National Schools Festival, Artscape Theatre) and (Fish Hoek High School as guest performers), Magic Beans Theatre Botswana 2018, Zimbabwe HIFA International Festival 2018, TAAC Observatory Cape town SA 2018, Charity performance in aid of The Tree House at The Kalk Bay Theatre SA. Rooted has also been made into a dance film, directed by Lindsey Appolis.

In July 2018 CAN Creative travelled to Tanzania to work with a the company MUDA Africa, they created a new work on the performers called Petrichor. MUDA Africa performed this work at The Time2Dance Festival 2018 and will continue to perform it in 2019.

Their most recent work was Commissioned by The Baxter Dance festival 2018, entitled Sentient Being. Performed at The baxter dance festival in October 2018 and a charity performance in aid of The Tree House at The Kalk bay Theatre in Cape Town SA. Sentient Being has also been made into a Dance Film, Directed by Lindsey Appolis.

They taught dancers 'Rooted' repertoire in Las Vegas in May 2019.

CAN Creative performed in the NEXT@ Martha graham Festival in New York City in May 2019 and were awarded first prize for choreography and performance, receiving 30 hours of studio space and a chance to perform in NYC in May 2020.

They will be performing 'Sentient Being' at the Festival Dansen in 't Park in Belgium on the 17th of August 2019.

 

In November 2019 CAN Creative will be in Senegal working and creating with local dancers as part of the Thread Project.

NATHAN DORIAN BARTMAN

At the age of 16 Nathan started dancing with a local Hip Hop crew in Eersterivier, Cape Town, South Africa. In 2011, following 3 years of training in that genre, Nathan received a dance scholarship for a senior bridging programme during which he received 2 years’ formal classical dance training under the direction of Phillip Boyd and Christopher Kindo.

In 2013 Nathan was awarded a scholarship to study performing arts at the Cape Academy of Performing Arts under the direction of Debbie Turner. There he was trained in multiple performing arts disciplines and took advantage of the great opportunity to learn and perform the repertoire of the Cape Dance Company (CDC). Nathan completed three years of studies and graduated with a Senior Diploma with Distinction in 2015.

Nathan has worked in many productions both nationally and internationally, working with choreographers such as Jose Agudo (Spain/UK), Alonzo King (USA), Bradley Shelver (SA/USA), Kristine Elliot (USA), Christopher Huggins (USA), Christopher Kindo (SA),  Grant Van Ster (SA), Belina Nusser (SA/Sweden), Alfred Hinkle (SA) and Idrissa Camara (Guinea). Working for these choreographers has taken him to many stages and festivals from Cape Town, the Klein Karoo and the Grahamstown National Arts Festival to  San Fransisco, Wales Cardiff, London, Scotland, Amsterdam, Johannesburg, Birmingham, Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Nigeria.
